Charity clay shoot and dinner raises nearly £50,000

The Nelson Trust's Clay Pigeon Shoot and Evening Dinner at Berkeley Castle on Thursday, May 15, was a great success, raising approximately £50,000!

A statement from The Nelson Trust said: "We are extremely grateful to the Gloucestershire fundraising committee for organising this event, and to our sponsors - Enterprise Mobility and The Grapevine Works - as well as the Berkeley family and Barbury Shooting School for making this fantastic day possible."

In celebration of their 40th anniversary, this year's event included the special addition of the Gnat, provided by Raisthorpe Flyers and sponsored by Nailsworth Mill Estate and Stroud Farm Country Store. The Gnat was a popular test of attendees' shooting skills as everyone attempted to hit the fast-moving remote-controlled plane loaded with explosives.

The day saw the Nailsworth Clay Smashers as winners, and the Shooting Sheila's as the top ladies' team.

The funds raised from this event are crucial for The Nelson Trust - they are a charity supporting individuals across the South West of England and Wales who are affected by drug and alcohol use, as well as those in the community who are struggling and in need of support. Their mission is to make change possible, and funds raised from fundraising events like this are vital to their work.

The Clay Shoot Competition and Evening Dinner will return to Berkeley Castle and the Folly next year on Thursday, May 21.
