Charity Ball raises £10,000 for Gloucestershire cancer charities

A charity ball that raised funds for the fight against breast cancer saw £10,000 raised for two Gloucestershire charities.

Sarah Cook, a director at HR People Support, organised the event while recovering from breast cancer.

The money raised will support the work of Cobalt and FOCUS, who both supported Ms Cook throughout her treatment.

And her fund-raising efforts have not stopped there.

Next month, Ms Cook will look to double her donation to Cobalt through the charity's involvement in The Big Give.

Launched on #GivingTuesday, December 3, every donation given to Cobalt through The Big Give website, up to £25,000 will raise funds for two new research nurses.

Ms Cook said "Upon my diagnosis of breast cancer I took a long hard look at my life.

"I had overcome so many hurdles, cancer was the last straw. I wasn't about to give up without a fight though.

"I quit my job to launch my own business and I wanted to help others.

"The Big Give is a fantastic way to double the return on cash raised for this wonderful charity.

"The breast cancer nurses will mean a fighting chance of patients getting diagnosed earlier and local women being able to take part in these essential studies".
