Car production in the UK ramps up
24th August 2017
For the first seven months of the year, the amount of cars produced in the UK (four out of five of which are exported) went downhill by 1.6 per cent, but the numbers in July have risen by 17.7 per cent.
This is the first rise since November, which has reversed the descent of the first seven months the year.
A car is a person's third biggest buy in their lifetime, now coming after university fees as well as a house, which makes this rise in cars manufactured for sale in the UK very important for the UK economy.
SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes said: "As the timing and length of these manufacturing pauses can shift each year, market performance comparisons for July and August should always be treated with caution.
"But as long as the economic conditions at home and abroad stay broadly stable, we expect new car production to remain in line with expectations for the rest of 2017."
Across many trading states in Gloucestershire, there are many subcontractors who make car parts for leading brands such as Honda and Vauxhall.
