Can you help find Gloucester toddler's vital cochlear implant?

Can you help find a vital piece of technology that helps a three-year-old girl hear?

Myla Preston was out with her dad Matt in Gloucester earlier this week when one of her vital cochlear implants fell off close to Vision Express in the Eastgate Shopping Centre.

The device is formed of two pieces, one of which is implanted within the ear and the other which is worn externally behind the ear.

It is the external part of the device that got dislodged when Myla was brushing up against her pushchair and has been lost.

Myla's mother Josie Preston explained that they were trying everything possible to get the item found.

"We are hoping that someone has picked it up and not realised what it is they have got," she said.

"It's absolutely useless to anyone who has picked it up as it won't work with anything other than the other part of Myla's implant - it's only valuable to us."

Myla, who is profoundly deaf, has had the implants for two years and can't hear anything without them.

As she is now three and beginning to communicate the implants play a vital part in her having a normal life.

The implants aren't owned by Myla's parents, they are the property of the NHS and a temporary one has been issued while the search continues.

However, while the family have taken out insurance, they could be liable for the cost of a replacement.

"We have contacted the police to see if anyone has handed it in and we are hoping that someone simply doesn't realise what they have picked up," Josie added.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Gloucestershire Constabulary by ringing 101.
