Busy road will close for major repairs

Drivers will face diversions in the Forest of Dean when a major route undergoes resurfacing work.

The busy route between Gloucester and Monmouth is being resurfaced from May 23 as part of Gloucestershire County Council's £150m investment in highways.

Affected will be the A4136 Nailbridge to Plump Hill section of road.

Crews will be using very large machinery when resurfacing the road so in order to keep them safe a full road closure will be in place between 7am and 7pm from May 23 until Monday 11th June (excluding weekends).

Crews will complete the resurfacing over 12,280m² of the road with 2,150 tonnes of material.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways, said: "This is another important scheme that forms part of our £150m promise to improve Gloucestershire's highways. These works will have a major benefit to local businesses and residents in the Forest of Dean. I'd like to reassure residents that we will keep disruption to a minimum and I'd like to thank them for bearing with us."

Cllr Terry Hale, county councillor for Drybrook and Lydbrook, said: "It's fantastic that the A4136 is being resurfaced, it will certainly help keep our community moving. This is an important route for local residents and businesses, so it is vital for this resurfacing to go ahead. I would like to thank residents in advance for their cooperation while the work is carried out."

There is no guaranteed access for vehicles during the road closure, except in emergencies. A signed diversion will be in place and road users are advised to use the diversion or an alternative routes during work hours.

Crews will do all they can to provide access for residents and businesses in the work area when it is safe to do so.

What's the diversion route?

Take the A4151 south from Nailbridge to Cinderford, left on the A4151 to join the A48 at Elton. Follow the A48 to the A40, turn left and continue to Huntley, turn left onto the A4136 to Mitcheldean. The diversion is the same in reverse.
