Businesses counting cost of floods

Shops, schools and a leisure centre were all forced to close following storms and heavy rain in Gloucestershire.

Storms on Friday (September 20) afternoon caused flash flooding across Gloucestershire.

Three shops on The Promenade in Cheltenham - Toast, Anthropologie and Crew Clothing - were closed over the weekend and remain closed today (September 23) due to flooding. There is no indication when they will be able to reopen.

It was a particularly bitter blow for Toast, which only reopened a week ago, after being closed due to flooding since October last year.

The Milestone School in Gloucester will be closed today and tomorrow. Chosen Hill School in Churchdown is also closed today.

Elsewhere in Churchdown, The Village Cakery posted a video of staff sweeping water away from the shop and asking drivers to slow down.

Leisure @ Cheltenham was closed over the weekend, but was expected to reopen today.

With a Met Office amber warning for rain until 9pm this evening, unfortunately this is unlikely to be the last of the flooding for Gloucestershire.
