Powerful business group to reveal where it is spending millions in Gloucestershire

Aside from what it plans to do with its millions to drive the Gloucestershire economy there is the other important annual question that will be answered at tomorrow's eighth GFirst LEP annual review.

And that is with what stunt or to what fanfare will GFirst LEP Leaders Diane Savory and David Owen take centre stage at tomorrow's important annual review.

Putting aside the update on how the county's most powerful business group has been spending its millions, and how it plans to win and spend still more, Punchline-Gloucester.com believes there could be something special afoot.

In 2017, using some clever smoke, mirrors and showmanship, board members from the local enterprise partnership arrived on skateboards in front of an audience gathered at Rush Skate Park near Stroud.

The year before chairwoman, Diane Savory, and chief executive, David Owen, made their entrance in four-by-fours and emerged from the smoke at Gloucestershire Airport.

Tomorrow, they are due to take to centre stage at The School of Business and Technology at the University of Gloucestershire, Oxstalls Campus, where, we have a hunch their opening presentation could reach new heights (literally).

Joking aside, the LEP's annual review has become a hot ticket.

It is when the Government appointed organisation reports on how it is and will be spending the millions of pounds it has won to invest in the county, on infrastructure and capital projects, help and advice.

Last year that money equated to somewhere in the region of £101.69 million through its Gloucestershire Growth Deal, and €41 million in European funding through our EU Structural and Investment Funds Strategy.

To date it has already brought us the successful business advice, mentoring and support centre, the Growth Hubs, and spread the model county-wide.

With SGS College it has delivered Berkeley Green, the Gloucestershire renewable energy, engineering and nuclear skills centre, a partnership with Hartpury to create a £2m Agri Tech Centre, a partnership with the Royal Agricultural University Farm491, and major road improvement schemes.

It has also helped deliver the new Gloucester Transport Hub, invested in Gloucestershire Airport, the stunning new Gloucestershire College campus at Cinderford and the forthcoming Cyber Park in Cheltenham.

The event will also looks to the future unveiling what we can all expect from the year ahead.

However, much showmanship is laid on for us, and whatever is revealed, one thing is promised by the pre-show publicity - and that is "an enthralling afternoon".

The event is due to begin at 2.30pm. Pre-registration is advised. Visit the GFirst LEP website to find out more.
