Business backs 999 call from emergency services - to get down and party

When the Sheriff of Gloucester, the police, fire, ambulance services and the armed forces tell you it is time to enjoy yourself, it is probably best to take note.

Councillor Collette Finnegan, the current Sheriff of Gloucester, has relaunched the once annual fund-raiser known to those in emergency services as the 999 party.

Her aim is to raise as much money as she can towards the much-loved Gloucestershire Young Carers charity event, and she has the backing of Gloucester-based businessman Eammon McGurk as well.

More than one of the entrepreneur's companies (Keyway and 1st Call) is sponsoring the forthcoming gathering at Hatherley Manor on Friday, September 20, and tickets are now on-sale.

"I was a nurse for 30-years and we used to have 999 parties quite regularly and they were always really entertaining," she said.

"A short while ago I was at a NHS party and there were representatives from the other services there, we were reminiscing and having a laugh about it.

"So, I asked them if it might be a good idea to have a 999 party again.

"Thankfully, they all agreed and the take-up we've had so far has been brilliant. The fire service, police and ambulance service are all on board, as are Imjin Barracks."

Currently on the agenda for the big night out are Pimm's on arrival, a pig roast, hot and cold buffet plus a licensed bar, casino and live bands.

Special guests include; Joe Hayes and The Indie Killers. There will also be a disco and prize draws.

"Ticket sales have started well, but we're hoping to push that to more than 200 to raise as much as we can for a fantastic charity.

"There are 7,000 young carers in the county who all do a wonderful job for the people they are caring for, but they need support.

"It's going to be a great evening with lots planned and I can assure anyone who buys a ticket that they will be getting value for money."

The event is due to take place from 7pm to midnight.

Tickets are available to buy here for £25 for uniformed personnel and their families and also the general public. VIP tables for up to 12 people can be purchased at the same price per person.

The 999 Event is sponsored by McGurk Group, Punchline-Gloucester.com, Keyway, 1st Call, and Gloucester Carpet Outlet.
