Business and Community Champion: Wildlife World manufacturing and donating PPE

A Gloucestershire company which makes wildlife nest boxes, habitats and feeders for birds, bees and butterflies has turned its hand to making PPE.

Wildlife World, based in Tetbury, works with leading charities and organisations like the National Trust and RSPB to ensure its products are effective and valuable to wildlife. But now it is making products which are effective and valuable to care staff too.

The company has put its 3D printer to good use over the last few weeks and would like to donate a number of face shields to a care home or carers in need of protection to help them work.

That's why Punchline has nominated them as our latest Business and Community Champion - an initiative backed by GFirst LEP, the Growth Hub, Gloucestershire County Council and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.

Mark Pitman from Wildlife World said: "It was the idea of one of our staff members, Luke. When the Covid-19 situation broke, we thought 'we've got a 3D printer and there's a need for masks, let's see if we can help!'

"Luke took the 3D printer home, and he and his family have been working overtime and have formed an assembly production line.

"The challenge was getting hold of the perspex for the shields, as it has been in short supply. Luke has been churning out brackets for six weeks, but only got the perspex a week ago. He has done his research and used the laser cutter to cut them to shape."

Now Wildlife World is calling on the local community to get in touch if they know of anyone who could use the visors.

Mark said: "We've sent some to care home in Devon and Luke is delivering 25 to the care home which cared for his grandfather.

"We've still got 40 or 50 available and ideally would like to donate them to care homes and care staff in and around Tetbury."

Anyone who would like some masks to keep staff safe should get in touch with mark@wildlifeworld.co.uk to arrange a socially distant collection.
