'Biggest resurfacing scheme Gloucester has ever had' set to start this week

Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) is gearing up to begin some major resurfacing work in the south of the city this week.

More than 3km of road is due to get a new surface on Bristol Road and the A38 Southern Connector in Gloucester this summer, as part of what GCC is suggesting is the biggest resurfacing scheme the city has ever had.

Work is planned to start this Tuesday (June 29), with the A38 North Bound Carriageway from Waterwells through Quedgeley to the Cole Avenue crossroads to be closed while the first stage of resurfacing takes place.

The work will take place at night between 8pm and 7am, with the roads reopening during the day.

GCC said businesses known to operate overnight near the scheme have had an advance warning email giving planned details and dates of the work to help them organise deliveries around the closures.

The A38 Southern Connector sections are planned as follows:

  • Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 June - North Bound Carriageway: Section 1, road will be closed from Waterwells roundabout to Cole Avenue junction.
  • Thursday 1 July to Friday 9 July - South Bound Carriageway: Section 1, road will be closed from Cole Avenue junction to Waterwells roundabout.
  • Thursday 8 July to Sunday 25 July - North Bound Carriageway: Section 2, road will be closed from north of Kingsway junction to Cole Avenue junction.
  • Monday 12 July to Sunday 25 July - South Bound Carriageway: Section 2, road will be closed from Cole Avenue junction to north of Kingsway junction.

GCC added that these are planned start and end dates, with road users advised to keep an eye on the the GCC website or the signs on site for any short notice changes.

Diversion

The council have created an official diversion route which will be signposted and is suitable for all vehicles that would normally use the closed road.
