Big rise in car thefts

A car was stolen every six minutes in the last year - and it could be for an unusual reason.
With a shortage of essential car parts, including semiconductor chips, thieves are stealing cars, stripping them down and selling spare parts for high prices, as reported by The Sun.
The latest figures show 88,915 cars were stolen in the year to March - an average of 244 every day.
Some areas saw a huge rise in stolen cars, with thefts up 28 per cent in South Yorkshire, 19 per cent in the West Midlands region and 25 per cent in the City of London police force area.
Thieves have been known to use signal blockers, which prevent a car from locking when a fob is used. Drivers are being warned to always double check their car is locked, even when parking at home.
