Big profits for cake retailer

Egg-free cake brand, Cake Box, saw a big uplift in full year sales and profit.

Gross profit at the retailer, which has a store in Gloucester, was up 45 per cent to £15.8m, while revenues rose by 50.7 per cent to £33 million - up from £21.9m the previous year.

Online sales grew by 41 per cent for the year, while 31 new franchise stores opened, taking the total to 185.

Looking forward, the company is set to invest in more store openings and marketing.

Despite the challenging economic climate, Cake Box said it continues to trade strongly in the current financial year. It remains confident that people will still want to celebrate birthdays, weddings and all of life's milestones with cake.
