Big loss for Monsoon owner

The owner of Monsoon has posted a pre-tax loss of £7.5m.
Adena Brands, which also owns Accessorize and East, recorded the loss in the year to August 31 - having posted a £14.1m profit in the previous year, as reported by Retail Gazette.

Turnover was down to £204m from £231m at the group, which has a Monsoon store in Cheltenham and Accessorize stores in Cirencester and Cheltenham.
The business said the results 'reflected a challenging environment' with reduced consumer demand and big rises in wages and other costs.
But it also admitted to underperformance in a number of areas - with results reflecting both the underperformance and the work undertaken to improve performance.
Adena has focused on improving the store portfolio and childrenswear line, along with targeting underperforming international markets, including Germany and Italy.
The company said it is seeing investments starting to pay off in the current financial year.
The company previously known as Monsoon Accessorize went into administration in 2020. It used to operate 230 UK stores but now has around 150.
