Bid to save popular golf club from closure

A question mark today hangs over the future of one of Gloucestershire's best-known golf clubs.

The owners of Gloucester Golf Club on Robinswood Hill have announced the golf course will shut at the end of this month.

But Punchline understands that a group of businessmen are interested in taking over the club and negotiations are at an advanced stage.

Coleman and Basinghall Ltd, who own Gloucester Golf Club, have said that sadly they have reluctantly decided to close the golf course after seven years of loss making.

Because of its hillside position, Gloucester Golf Club is a challenge to even the most skilled players.

The location also makes it prone to bad weather.

No doubt developers are already sizing up the facility. But Punchline believes it would be a tragedy if this sporting treasure was replaced with rows of houses in the future.

We sincerely hope this is not the end for Gloucester Golf Club which has given so much pleasure to so many over the years.
