Bid to improve home energy efficiency in the Cotswolds
By David Wood | 4th February 2025
Cotswold District Council has announced a partnership with energy efficiency experts Furbnow, as part of its renewed commitment to supporting residents to reduce energy bills, make their homes more comfortable and resilient, and help create a net zero district.
Furbnow provides a comprehensive one-stop-shop for home energy improvements. Their expert services include conducting whole-house energy assessments to create tailored plans for each home.

They offer personalised energy efficiency solutions with clear, actionable guidance and manage the entire retrofit process, including recommending and coordinating pre-vetted contractors to carry out the work.
This partnership is the result of Cotswold District Council and partner councils across Gloucestershire joining forces to provide residents with this support offer.
Informed by research, it has been designed to remove barriers residents have expressed with regards to making home energy efficiency improvements. Namely to simplify energy efficiency projects to be hassle free and delivered by trusted, vetted local installers.
This initiative is further strengthened by the appointment of Justine Mallinson as the council's new retrofit officer, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to support residents.
With 18 years of energy efficiency experience, Justine Mallinson is available to engage residents and raise awareness of home energy efficiency improvement opportunities by providing tailored advice via both in-person events and online home energy efficiency masterclasses.
A key priority of the council is addressing the cost concerns of energy upgrades. Grants are available for heat pumps and financial support for lower-income households. These grants help ensure long-term savings on energy bills while reducing environmental impact.

Councillor Mike McKeown, cabinet member for climate change and sustainability, said: "Partnering with Furbnow allows us to offer an innovative and practical solution to help Cotswold residents reduce energy bills and carbon emissions.
"By making energy efficiency improvements simpler and more affordable, we're helping homeowners take meaningful action to build a greener, more sustainable future for our district."
