Bid for basement restaurant approved

Plans for a basement restaurant in Cheltenham have been given the go-ahead.

The Good Times House, a private members' club at number 8 Imperial Square, applied to Cheltenham Borough Council for permission to create a restaurant on the lower ground floors of 7, 8 and 9 Imperial Square associated with the club.

The plans include the re-opening of internal doors linking the three properties at lower ground floor level and external works, including reinstatement of historical features.

The three properties are Grade II* listed buildings at the centre of a terrace opposite Cheltenham Town Hall and dating back to the 1800s. The majority of the buildings on the terrace are now used as offices.

The three basements were previously linked when they were occupied by print business Print by Design. The basements to numbers 7 and 9 are now vacant, while number 8 is in use as part of the private members' club.

At the front of the properties, existing non-original concrete steps outside numbers 7 and 9 will be replaced with manor Yorkstone. The external walls for the lower ground floors will be painted Wimborne white and a new white painted timber door will be installed for number 7. The external changes will match the features of number 8.

The upper floors of 7, Imperial Square are home to Montpellier Asset Management Ltd and KBW Property Consultants.

The Good Times House won an appeal to extend its opening hours in December 2023.
