‘Best ever’ year for Game Workshop

Fantasy miniatures maker, Games Workshop/ Warhammer, has posted its best ever set of annual results.

The retailer, which has stores in Gloucester and Cheltenham, reported sales of £494.7m for the year to June 2, up from £445.4m the previous year.

Operating profit for the year was £201.8m, up from £170.2m in 2023.

It delivered 12 out of 12 months of profitable sales growth and increased its cash buffer from £50 million to £80 million over the course of the year.

The Nottingham-based company has 548 retail stores in 23 countries, as well as being stocked by independent traders.

Trade sales grew by 16.3%, with trade outlets up by around 700 to 7,200. Many independent retailers now sell Warhammer products online.

Kevin Rountree, CEO, said: "I am delighted to report the best results in Games Workshop's history, so far. We have delivered sales, profits and dividend payments to shareholders at record levels. We once again have designed, made and sold in record quantities the best fantasy miniatures in the world."

In June last year, launched the 10th edition of Warhammer 40,000, which is now 37 years old.

Its Warhammer+ subscription service for fans is approaching its third year. The service offers original animated shows, tutorials and more, with subscriber numbers currently at 176,000, up from 136,000 in 2023.

During the period, Warhammer's licensing partners launched three new games - two PC/ console and one mobile. It also saw revenue from established games continue to perform well, many years after launch.

Warhammer's online sales for the year dipped by 0.3%, but there was a significant increase of 46% (£2.7 million) to £9 million of orders from home and picked up in a Warhammer store.

Meanwhile, Games Workshop is reported by The Daily Mail to be in the final stages of negotiation to bring Warhammer figurines to the big screen, following an agreement with Amazon Content Services announced last year.
