Scaling new heights for charity

A team of 20 local business people, sporting fans and friends have joined together to tackle the Three Peaks 24 hour challenge with former Gloucester Rugby player, Ben Morgan as part of his testimonial campaign.

The party left Kingsholm Thursday 29 June at 7.30 am in support vehicles to head north for the ultimate climbing challenge in the UK. They return on Saturday 1 July at noon back at the rugby ground. All fans are welcome to come and give them a celebratory clap!

Scaling the highest peaks in Scotland, England, and Wales within a 24-hour period is not for the faint-hearted. That's 23 miles, 3064 metres ascent, and 462 miles between them! It requires strength, fitness, teamwork, and logistics!

Aqua Construction has led the event organisation and is also a 'peak' sponsor. Thanks also to Renishaw Engineering for their support and BigDug for providing each walker with a generous BIG Tuck Box containing energy and protein bars, gels, Lucozade, crisps and water.

Each participant will proudly receive a shiny medal and commemorative tee shirt sponsored by Gourmet Green, Leckhampton Bathrooms and Halbro Sportswear.

This event is proudly supporting the 4Ed Foundation, hosted by Gloucester Rugby Foundation, and the Sam Polledri Foundation, hosted by the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC).

Ben Morgan said: "We have a group of 20 walkers and a support team and we are excited to take on this 24-hour challenge and be back here at Kingsholm on Saturday morning. I do wish I had worn in my walking boots but I have lots of plaster packs with me. I am really grateful for the support from local firms, friends and family, and the testimonial committee for their hard work in organising the event.

The 4Ed Foundation is very close to Ben's heart following former teammate Ed Slater's MND diagnosis, and the Sam Polledri Foundation was established when Jake's brother, Sam, sadly and suddenly passed away from a cardiac arrest last year. The Sam Polledri Foundation and GWAAC donations will be held by them to be used in their joint aim of installing public access defibrillators in as many places as possible, across Bristol and Gloucestershire.

Ian Camm is also one of the walkers and he is using this challenge to do a recce to see if there is any way that his son, Rob Camm could drive his wheelchair up Ben Nevis. Rob did conquer Snowdon in 2019.

The Special Effect "Bubblebuster" desktop robot is primarily used for housebound children with health problems. The robot is taken into class and placed on the desk while the child is controlling it at home- listening, interacting, and asking the teacher questions via an iPad. Ian hopes to take the robot up in a front-facing baby carrier then Rob can watch and see for himself what the challenge is like.

As the team set off fundraising was over £10,000. Please support Ben and his team and donate here  to spur them on their way to £20,000.
