The BBC is coming to Gloucestershire to inspire young musicians.

The BBC Ten Pieces is a national project to promote classical music to young people. It aims to open up the world of classical music to people across the UK and inspire them to develop their own creative responses to music.

The local authority music service, Gloucestershire Music, is helping to celebrate this venture with the BBC Ten Pieces Day on Saturday 4th November. If you sing or play an instrument there will be an event for you!

Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra (GYO) is holding an open session for advanced youth players as they work on Stravinsky's mighty Firebird Suite. This event is a chance for people to learn together with GYO members, and visit professional players and students from the Birmingham Conservatoire.

This opportunity is perfect for all brass, wind, string and percussion players' grade 6+. The session will run from 2pm - 7pm at Sir Thomas Rich's School. Fees will cost £30 (payable on the day).

For newer young musicians, there is the opportunity to attend their local music centre or band in Gloucester, Stroud or the Forest of Dean. They will have the opportunity to perform works from the BBC Ten Pieces by Stravinsky and Carl Orff.

Parts for all instruments and abilities have been especially prepared. There will be music for the very beginner to the more advanced young musician.

Brookfield Music Centre Sir Thomas Rich's School, Gloucester - Parts will be available for brass, strings, woodwind, percussion and guitars.

Five Valleys Music Centre Archway School, Stroud - Parts will be available for brass, strings, woodwind, percussion and guitars. Vocalists are also welcome to attend.

Forest of Dean Area Wind Band, Five Acres School (formerly Lakers), Coleford - Parts will be available for brass, woodwind, and percussion.
