BREAKING: Baylis takes the wheel for Suzuki

Sitting pretty in the retailing sweet spot between Cheltenham and Gloucester, Baylis Suzuki is now up and running as the county's new Suzuki dealership.

Turbocharged by the expertise and momentum of the dealership's former staff, who have now joined Baylis's team of eight auto experts, the Staverton dealership, found directly opposite Safran on the Old Cheltenham Road, is now suited and booted for 2025, the showroom and forecourt having officially opened for business on January 6.

Punchline-Gloucester.com editor Mark Owen stopped by to find out more about the brand – and to learn more about Baylis's vision for this exciting new addition to its retailing portfolio, you can check out today's video both here and below.

Mike Smith, General Sales Manager for the new operation, said: "This year is set to be a very exciting one for us, given the natural fit of Suzuki and Baylis. This well-known auto brand is all about trust and dependability; it has built up a strong following in the UK and that brand recognition aligns perfectly with how Baylis operates – we build our customer relationships on our close connection with customers and so being able to bring Suzuki's excellent range to them really is a thrilling opportunity!"

With stocks of cars currently splitting into around 50-50, around 40 new and 40 low-mileage, late used models are already available, with more are due for imminent arrival.

Mike added: "We are already carrying out around eight MOTs per day and with the eight staff we already have are looking to recruit more."

Key showroom highlights across the range underline Suzuki's broad appeal:

● Starting alongside the bite-size Ignis at the supermini end of the spectrum, the all-new 2024 Swift, priced from £19,199, brims with technology and offers heated seats as standard. A pocket rocket that has found favour with customers who yearn for old-school hatchback thrills, it's little wonder that this newcomer has already scooped several industry awards, including 2024's Small Car of the Year from Top Gear.

● With a strong offer to growing families, the S-Cross meanwhile offers a great balance of crafted luxury as well as tough practical appeal which has seen the car win accolades as the perfect option for towing adventures. Priced from £26,960, all options offer efficiency-boosting hybrid technology.

● And with little need for introduction as the flagship name that has headed up the Suzuki family since 1988, the unstoppable Vitara enjoys a special spotlight in the Baylis showcase. In its latest 2025 incarnation, priced from £26,949, this model now offers more equipment but the same rugged, no-nonsense driving character.

Despite the new showroom's warm and inviting design, Mike explained that the interior showspace, coupled with the service area that offers six bays and the parts and accessories department, mean that the Staverton dealership is among Suzuki's largest retail points in the UK.

He added: "It's great to have such a range of products to appeal to a broad band of customers, but I think what unifies them is their radar for value. Our customers want quality and reliability and those are crucial to building trust, but that's exactly what Suzuki means. In 2023, the brand came top in What Car?'s league table for reliability, while all the cars we have here have the reassurance of a seven-year service-activated guarantee.

According to Andy Robbins, Baylis Group Joint Managing Director, the decision in 2024 to add Suzuki required little hesitation: "We are all about building close and lasting relationships with our valued customers and everything about Suzuki told us that working with this carmaker is both a logical and exciting move for the year ahead."

Baylis Suzuki can be found at 1 Vernon Court, Meteor Business Park, Staverton, Cheltenham GL2 9QL. For more information, call 01452 509414.
