Barnwood Golf Day cements friendships

Sixty keen golfers representing the construction industry took part in Barnwood's annual golf day yesterday (Thursday).

The event, which has been going for over 10 years, was this year held at Tewkesbury Park and players had to brave the elements as a mixture of sunshine and showers made for some spectacular scenes.

Before teeing off at 12 noon, the golfers - who had been divided into 15 teams of four - enjoyed breakfast baps and tea and coffee.

As a bit of added fun and to raise some extra money for charity, players paid £5 to drop their ball into 'The Guesser' which added or subtracted points at random from their team's total.

The competition was run on a Shotgun/Texas scramble format and turned out to be a close contest with just a few points separating the top three teams.

In the end, the winning team, with 46 points, consisted of Rob Walder, Scott Dee, Tony Mullins and David Marks. The second team scored 48 points and third 49 points.

Players came from a range of firms in the construction industry, including architects, surveyors and project managers.

Among the firms represented were Roberts Limbrick, Rodgers Leask, Simpson Engineering, SRA Architects, Ward Williams, Martin Commercial Properties, Ash Property, AFA Ltd, Box 20, Ashville Group and Quattro Design, to name but a few.

Paul Fowles, Barnwood's construction director, said: "It was fantastic to see so many of our clients and colleagues at this year's Barnwood Golf Day. Thank you to everyone who joined us and for the generous donations, helping raise valuable funds for our chosen charities, Hope for Tomorrow and Gloucester Foodbank."

Mark Owen, editor of Punchline-Gloucester.com, who was invited to take part in the event, said: "The heavens opened when we teed off but then the sun came out and after a few heavy showers it was beautiful by the end of the day.

"It's always great to play with different people. I've made some really good mates over the years."

After the golf, guests enjoyed a lovely dinner in the Roses Suite where Simon Carey, CEO of Barnwood, thanked everyone for coming and the presentations took place.
