Barnwood achieves turnover of £84.6m

The Barnwood Group achieved a turnover of £84.6 million in 2017 and continues its involvement in some of Gloucestershire's most important construction projects.

With a reputation built on reliability and quality, the company is now in its 56th year of successful trading.

Proud of its Gloucester roots, Barnwood Group includes Barnwood Construction, Barnwood Shopfitting and Barnwood General Works and employs 240 people in total.

Barnwood is involved in several of Gloucestershire's most prestigious projects including; the construction of Gloucestershire College's new Forest of Dean campus at Cinderford's Northern Quarter; phase one of the regeneration of Bakers Quay next to Gloucester Quays; Gateway 12 Business Park at Waterwells, Quedgeley and Honeybourne Place in Cheltenham.

Gloucestershire College's new Forest campus is leading the way in environmental sustainability and is due for completion later this year. It is a key element of the Northern Quarter regeneration which also includes residential and commercial property, a new link road and leisure facilities.

On a recent visit to the site Tim Holder, vice-chair of the Cinderford Regeneration Board, said: "It has been a real eye opener to see how well the new building is coming together and the amount of care being taken to achieve a good quality build by contractors Barnwood Construction.

"I look forward to seeing the doors of this impressive building opening to students in September."

Barnwood Construction is the main contractor for Phase One of the recently completed Bakers Quay development next to Gloucester Quays which is transforming this area of the city with a new 104-bedroom Premier Inn Hotel, Beefeater restaurant, Costa Coffee drive-through and the re-build of the Provender Mill building creating 47 new apartments.

Barnwood is also the preferred contractor working with expert developer and regeneration specialist, St. Modwen, at its £25m business park Gateway 12 in Quedgeley, Gloucester. When it completes towards the end of this year, this 16-acre development will provide around 280,000 sq ft of prime quality warehousing and industrial space and create around 800 jobs in the local area long term.

Pete Davies, Development Director for St. Modwen, said: "St. Modwen remains committed to accelerating its commercial development activity in 2018, and the final 3 buildings at Gateway 12 of 24,000 sq ft, 34,000 sq ft and 66,000 sq ft are now available for occupation

"The proximity to junction 12 of the M5 makes Gateway 12 Business Park an obvious choice for businesses looking for prime quality industrial and warehousing space and we are pleased to be working with Barnwood Construction to bring this employment space forward to meet demand."

Barnwood are also just completing the Biz Space development at Barnwood Point Business Park, Corinium Avenue, Gloucester with 74 flexible office spaces and workshops of varying sizes.

And in Cheltenham, Barnwood is the lead contractor for Honeybourne Place, a Formal Investments development providing 64,000 sq ft of prime office space. Due for completion in 2019 it is the first new build office space in Cheltenham for many years.

Barnwood's Shopfitting division is also having a particularly busy year and is responsible for a third of Barnwood Group's total business. Barnwood Shopfitting is involved in the transformation of Nationwide Building Society's branches and is also working with leading high street names such as H&M, WHSmith, JD Sports and Debenhams.

Barnwood Group's managing director Simon Carey said the development of skilled staff and an enviable record for retaining personnel long term were key to Barnwood's success.

"Training, with an annual intake of apprentices and trainee professional staff, continues to be a vital part of our business," he said. "As a well-established company with a reputation second to none and a strong order book going forward, we look to the future with confidence."
