Banks battle it out with quiz for Gloucestershire charity

Staff from eight bank and building society branches put their knowledge to the test in a quiz to raise money for medical charity Cobalt.

Teams battled it out to raise cash and answer questions at the event hosted by the Sup and Chow in Cheltenham, organized as part of a push to raise £10,000 for the charity to fund a new MRI scanner.

The event was organized by senior branch manager Leanne Dalby and her team at Cheltenham High Street branch of Nationwide Building Society, who set out to raise the challenging figure for the charity this year through fundraising activities and they are already two thirds of the way there.

Along with the quiz, the branch arranged a silent auction with prizes donated by local businesses including haircuts, personal training, jewellery, a round of golf, a day out for the family and wine tasting. The auction will close on Wednesday 27 September and bids will be accepted at the building society's branch in Cheltenham.

Julia Jenkins, Head of Fundraising, Cobalt, said "We're delighted by Nationwide's support and efforts. They've already raised over £6,000 . The money will help local people affected by cancer and dementia.

"We hope to purchase a new scanner that includes an in bore patient experience. The scanner has been designed to make it much more comfortable including relaxing ambient lighting in the scanning room."

Leanne said: "We really enjoyed challenging our competitors. We have already had lots of fun in the Cheltenham branch to raise money for Cobalt, with various events including a leg wax, a head shave and an indoor cycle. This time we got our competitors from around the town on board and managed to raise over £500."
