Bakery and tea room manager denies £13k theft

A manager at the Huffkins Bakery and tea rooms in Cheltenham Promenade has today denied stealing more than £13,000 from the company.

Rebecca Lee, 30, of Ashlands road, Cheltenham, pleaded not guilty at Gloucester crown court to theft of £13,355.93 from Huffkins beween 1st Jan 2015 and 27th Oct 2016.

Ms Lee, who walked into court with the aid of crutches, was told she will face a 3-4 day jury trial starting on June 18.

Lloyd Jenkins, defending, said the issue at trial would be whether she was dishonest. A lot of bank statements and other documents would need to be scrutinised by the defence and a forensic accountant would be appointed to assist, he said.

"She says she was a store manager given very little training and she feels she is a scapegoat," said Mr Jenkins.

Ms Lee was bailed by Judge Michael Cullum pending trial.
