Industry award for retirement apartment development

A retirement apartment development by a Gloucestershire building company has been recognised with a top industry award - voted for by residents.

The GFirst LEP-backed Cheltenham retirement apartment complex Honeybourne Gate won the prize in the Elderly Accommodation Councel 2019 Award scheme.

The Silver Award in the South West region category for best Housing-with-Care schemes (41-55 units) and was voted on by 2,370 residents, visitors, volunteers and on-site staff from 111 developments managed by 30 housing providers.

"Being recognised in the prestigious EAC awards is a great honour and a tribute to the great work done by the team at Honeybourne Gate and by colleagues at the Markey Group and Oak Retirement, who collectively work hard to make Honeybourne Gate a great place to live," said Dr Stephen Ladyman, managing agent for Honeybourne Gate.

Honeybourne Gate was developed by Markey Group, built by Markey Construction with fitted kitchens manufactured by the Markey Group firm, Premiere.

The scheme was backed by private investment company Parallel Capital and supported by GFirst LEP with loan funding from the Gloucestershire Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF).

Tony Markey, director with Quedgeley headquartered building business, said: "We were delighted to be involved in the construction and fit out of Honeybourne Gate and very proud of the quality of retirement apartments that we delivered. To gain this independent recognition though is fantastic."

Ian Adamson a resident at the Cheltenham apartments, said: "The community ethos and inclusivity of Honeybourne Gate increases every month."

Situated on the corner of The High Street and Gloucester Road and adjacent to the Honeybourne Line, Honeybourne Gate is a luxury retirement apartment complex with a wide range of on-site facilities.

Apartment owners have access to a roof garden, atrium, restaurant, cinema, library, swimming pool and gymnasium.
