CPRE says Prue's a true hero

Environment guardians at the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) have picked out a Gloucestershire trustee for a special award.
Prue Vernon, who has been a trustee with the Berkeley District of the CPRE for more than 20 years, received the accolade of a 'Special Trustee Award' from the National HQ of the CPRE.
A spokesman said: "Prue continues to attend and contribute actively to CPRE Gloucestershire's Board meetings, Policy-Sub Committee and Chair our Berkeley Vale District Committee. As Chair of our Berkeley District, Prue checks all planning applications that relate to this area, works with her Committee to decide which should be objected to and why, then ensures that the subsequent letter to the Council is substantive and detailed in relation to planning rules.
"As a result she has played a significant part in helping to resist numerous unsuitable applications for development over the years, including several which would have had a very significant impact on the local landscape.
Ms Vernon also leads her committee in organising social and fund-raising events for local members, the commendation said.
"Whenever a volunteer is needed for a working group, Prue is there, ready and willing to share the expertise born of her long-service to CPRE Gloucestershire. To undertake such tasks for a year or two would be service enough. To be committed to contributing time, energy and skill year after year and encouraging others to get involved too, is truly outstanding."
