Artist to officially open Pittville Student Village
21st March 2018
Renowned Gloucestershire artist, PJ Crook, is to officially open the University of Gloucestershire's newest student accommodation next month.
Pittville Student Village is the result of £38 million investment and is open for new University of Gloucestershire students, adding around an additional 600 rooms to the university's existing portfolio.
The official opening event will include a celebratory display of over 150 years of art education in Gloucestershire and the unveiling of the university's new art collection with pieces by PJ Crook, Cornelia Parker, Peter Thursby and the world-famous The Golden Boy bronze bust of Rolling Stones founding member, Brian Jones from Cheltenham. Pittville Student Village will now be the art work's permanent home, after a lengthy tour of the county.
Pittville Student Village was developed in partnership with Uliving, leaders in student living and sustainable construction. The village boasts landscaped grounds, ergonomic social spaces, and 24/7 on site security. All rooms offer 4ft wide (three quarter size) beds within flats and houses which look out onto green courtyards.
PJ Crook is an internationally acclaimed painter and sculptor whose striking work features in collections worldwide. An artist for around 40 years, PJ attended the Gloucestershire College of Art and Design, a predecessor of the University of Gloucestershire. She was awarded an honorary doctorate from the university in 2010 and presents an annual prize for a final year fine art student at graduation.
