Armed robbery at Gloucester supermarket

An off-duty police officer and members of the public reacted to stop an armed robbery at a Gloucester supermarket on Sunday.

Shortly after 8pm on Sunday evening, Police received reports of the robbery at the Tesco Express store in Mead Road in Abbeydale.

A man armed with a hammer had taken money from the till at the store and attempted to flee, only to be apprehended.

The off-duty police inspector was assisted by numerous members of the public before officers arrived to arrest the man. Nobody suffered any physical injuries in the incident.

Police have confirmed that a 17-year-old from Gloucester was arrested on suspicion of robbery and he remains in custody for questioning.
