Armed gang attack business couple for jewellery

Five "large built men" with a baseball bat and wearing balaclavas attacked a couple who run an antiques jewellery business.

The husband and wife were set upon after they had left an antiques fair at Westonbirt School in the Cotswolds on Saturday (January 5), with the man pushed to the ground and the woman punched in the face.

The men - all said to be dressed in black - swooped as the couple opened the boot of their car in Shipton Moyne, Tetbury, to remove a briefcase containing what are described as "valuable items of jewellery".

According to police the attack happened just after 5pm as they returned to their car parked near the Cat and Custard Pot Inn.

One of the offenders was said to be carrying a baseball bat.

"The wife was also punched in the face. The offenders, who did not sound English, grabbed the briefcase and shouted abuse at the victims," said a statement from the police.

"The offenders then drove off in a large black Land Rover, possibly a Discovery, towards the A46."

Officers would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and saw a black Land Rover parked near the Cat & Custard Pot Inn or Rose Cottage Bed and Breakfast.
