Arkell's Brewery release special 'Coronation Ale' to toast the King
By David Wood | 4th May 2023
To mark the forthcoming coronation of King Charles III, Arkell's Brewery have released a special dark ale to be served in pubs throughout Gloucestershire.
The beer is described as a smooth, chocolatey, traditional style, dark ale with a surprising light easy drinking body, brewed using traditional methods in their Victorian brewery.

The 4.5% ABV limited edition brew 'Coronation Ale' will be available on draught at Arkell's pubs and is also on sale at Arkell's Grape & Grain Wine & Brewery Warehouse, available to the public as individual bottles, in a six-bottle celebratory gift case or a pack of 8 X 500ml.
Brewed to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III on Saturday, Arkell's pubs are excited to bring their community together with a variety of activities and encourage customers to raise a glass of Coronation Ale along with them in celebration of this momentous occasion.
George Arkell, managing director, said "Pubs are the bedrocks of communities across the country and we hope customers over the coronation weekend enjoy the celebrations and come together at their local, with family and friends to toast His Majesty the King with Arkell's special Coronation Ale; it is a fantastic beer for a memorable event."
Commenting on the beer, Alex Arkell, head brewer, said: "In keeping with our long tradition of celebrating royal milestones over our 180 years of brewing we are extremely proud to release this Coronation Ale to honour our King as he is formally crowned.

"We have, in fact, celebrated six other monarchs coming to the throne since 1843, the first, of course, being Victoria, which is when we built our Victorian brewery. We'll be sending some of the bottled beer to King Charles III and Queen Camilla, with many happy memories of the visit of Her Majesty to the Brewery in January 2018."
The Arkell family have long enjoyed marking royal milestones. In 1953 Sir Noel Arkell, High Sheriff of Wiltshire at that time, attended the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey, he also carried out the opening of Queen's Park, Swindon, in honour of the Queen's coronation. For many years Arkell's have brewed commemorative ales such as The Queen Mother's Birthday Ale, as well as Golden and Platinum Jubilee Ales in honour of Queen Elizabeth II.
