Appeal given 100,000 PPE items in a week

Around 100,000 pieces of personal protective equipment have been donated by by county businesses in one week.

Gloucestershire County Council issued an appeal for PPE items last week (April 17) and received around 300 firms emails in response.

In addition, Gloucestershire's Strategic Coordinating Group has received in excess of half a million items of PPE through national supplies, including a delivery of more than 82,500 pieces earlier this week.

As Punchline reported earlier this week, the council's community help hub has received more than 3,200 requests for help from vulnerable people since it was launched on March 20.

And more than £87million has been provided to support businesses across the county during the coronavirus pandemic.

Sarah Scott, chair of Gloucestershire's Strategic Coordinating Group, said: "The efforts of both colleagues and so many volunteers within our communities is fantastic to see and is having a really welcomed impact on those in most need.

"Similarly, the effort and commitment of those working in care setting is fantastic and vital not just for their residents - but to protecting the NHS at this time.

"Thank you so much to every individuals and business who is playing its part."

She continued: "It is extremely sad to know there are many families who are grieving the loss of a loved one and our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time.

"While I know it will be of little comfort to those who has lost someone dear to them, the South West has fortunately seen the lowest number of cases and deaths in the UK. We will continue to work hard to support communities during these unprecedented times.

"It is important we do not neglect our broader health and wellbeing during this time. Those who may be concerned about your health in other ways should definitely still contact your GP for support and advice.

"The same goes for those who are concerned for their safety or the safety of others; domestic abuse, the harm or neglect of a vulnerable child or adult must still be reported and will most certainly be followed up."

If you can help with PPE, provide details of which items you have, including quantities and how quickly they could be made available to Covid19transporthub@glosfire.gov.uk
