APPEAL: Assault in Gloucester city centre

Police are appealing for witnesses following an altercation on Southgate Street on Saturday night, June 29.

Officers were called at around 11.15pm to a report that a man had been assaulted outside The Whitesmiths Arms.

A man is believed to have become aggressive towards another male. One of the men has then been punched to the face, causing him to fall and hit his head.

The victim, who is aged 28, has been taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol where he remains in a serious condition with head injuries.

Officers would now like to speak to anybody who may have witnessed the events leading up to the incident and who has not already spoken to police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Gloucestershire Constabulary through the website, quoting incident 532 of June 29.

A 28-year-old man from Gloucester has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm. He remains in custody while enquiries continue.
