Another major retailer hit by cyber attack

Days after M&S was hit by a cyber attack, another retailer has become a victim.

Some of the Co-op's back-office systems and call centre services were breached last weekend, as reported by Retail Gazette.

It is understood that the convenience store business lost access to all its virtual desktops, but there were no breaches of data.

The Co-op confirmed the attack was an attempt to gain unauthorised access to its systems and it had taken steps to keep systems safe. These included shutting down some business services for store teams and its legal services department.

Co-op said the issues were still ongoing, but said there had been no impact on either its stores or funeral homes.

After the attack on M&S over Easter, the retailer was unable to take contactless payments and had to suspend all online orders as it worked to manage the incident.
