Amazon's new venture a cut above

Amazon has announced its latest expansion into a new commercial sector - hairdressing.

The online retail giant is opening the 1,500sq ft Amazon Salon over two floors in Spitalfields, close to the company's UK headquarters in London.

Initially open only to Amazon employees, the salon will be opened to the general public after a few weeks.

Amazon UK country manager John Boumphrey said: "We have designed this salon for customers to come and experience some of the best technology, hair care products and stylists in the industry.

"We want this unique venue to bring us one step closer to customers, and it will be a place where we can collaborate with the industry and test new technologies."
