Accessible physio clinic opens in Gloucestershire

A physiotherapy clinic specialising in neurological rehabilitation opened in Gloucestershire this week.

Get Ahead Physiotherapy, based at Elmbridge Court on the outskirts of Gloucester, works to enable and support adults and children with neurological and complex conditions, some living with long term disabilities.

The clinic was set up by Kerry Richardson, who has been running Get Ahead Physiotherapy in the county since 2016, working to support clients in their own homes.

Kerry said: "I realised we needed more space with an accessible gym. We have ceiling track hoists and disabled parking."

The total investment in the 1,800 sq ft gym was around £50,000, which includes a big investment in essential accessibility equipment. The main space is a big open area with gym equipment and mats, which will soon be home to classes especially for those with Parkinson's.

The clinic also has two smaller rooms, which can form one bigger room, as therapy spaces.

Get Ahead Physiotherapy is staffed by a highly experienced team of physiotherapists and other health professionals, including an occupational therapist, orthotist and a personal trainer specialising in disability.

Kerry Richardson has nearly 30 years of clinical experience. She originally ran the business single-handedly, but over the past few years it has grown to offer a number of additional services.

Kerry continued: "The service is so needed. It's been amazing to create a team of like-minded therapists. I'm really excited to take Get Ahead Physiotherapy into its next stage, and we have lots of ideas to make this a lively and enjoyable environment for the rehabilitation and maintenance of people living with long-term conditions."

Get Ahead will continue to offer a home-based service for clients who prefer rehabilitation in their own homes, but they will now also have the opportunity to make use of a purpose-designed space with accessible rehabilitation and gym equipment.

The clinic is holding an open day on Friday (June 9) from 1-5pm for people to have a look around, find out more about the services on offer and meet the team.
