A48 to close for overnight resurfacing

Gloucestershire County Council will be resurfacing a section of the A48 in the Forest of Dean, between the High Street and Ruddle Court Farm, Newnham on Severn.

The council has said that the road surface has come to the end of it's life, so work to will take place from 1- 8 September (excluding the weekend) for a total of six nights.

The road will be closed 7pm - 7am to help minimise disruption, and a signed diversion will be in place.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways, said: "We are making sure the Forest of Dean gets it's fair share of the £150million investment we've made into the county's roads. The A48 is one of Gloucestershire's main transport arteries so it's vital this route stays in good condition. By working over night we hope to minimise disruption to commuters and local businesses."

Cllr Richard Boyles, local member for Blakeney and Bream, said: "I'm pleased this work is being done as good quality rural roads are important to the local economy as well as connecting journeys further afield. I appreciate road closures are inconvenient, but in order to keep everyone on the road safe it is necessary."

There is an official diversion route which will be signposted and is suitable for all vehicles that would normally use the closed road. We appreciate local residents may know an alternative route, however please be aware these are used at the driver's discretion.

Social distancing measures will be in place to help ensure highways crews are safe at all times.
