Gloucester's new £5.3m healthcare facilities at Quayside House will be officially opened by Councillor Mark Hawthorne at a ceremony today (Monday, September 6).

Quayside House is now home to two of the city centre's GP surgeries, Severnside Medical Practice (formally Gloucester City Health Centre) and Gloucester Health Access Centre. Patients are already benefitting from the fantastic new premises which opened in July.

Councillor Hawthorne will meet staff, patients and community partners who have worked with commitment and inspiration to create the health centre before cutting a ribbon and taking a short tour of the premises.

Located in the heart of Gloucester's Quayside within walking distance from the city centre, the practices will provide care to around 18,000 local people, providing a range of healthcare services including a minor operations suite, facilities for GP and staff training and conference rooms.

Additional consulting and treatment rooms have also been built to accommodate the growing demand for primary care services.

Dr Simon Loader, GP partner at Severnside Medical Practice, said: "We are delighted to mark the formal opening of Quayside House with this event which gives us the opportunity to recognise and appreciate the tremendous achievement of all those involved in working so positively and creatively to create our wonderful new health centre."

Dr Emma Crutchlow, clinical director at Gloucester Health Access Centre, said: "After many years of careful planning with Severnside Medical Practice, we are delighted to be offering our services from Quayside House.

Our patients have been at the heart of the Quayside House build and I would like to thank the many local people, staff, patient groups, builders and architects who have worked so hard to make this a reality."

Councillor Mark Hawthorne, leader of Gloucestershire County Council, said: "It is fantastic to be able to open the new Quayside House building in Gloucester.

"The new facility has been built on Gloucestershire County Council land, and paid for with £16 million of council funding.

"Our focus has been to produce fantastic new premises to allow our health partners to be able to deliver the services the people of Gloucester deserve.

"I would like to thank all of our health partners, Gloucestershire County Council staff, and our contractors Kier, for all their hard work on the project throughout the pandemic."

Director of Primary Care at NHS Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Helen Goodey, said:

"The CCG is delighted to have backed this exciting development which will give healthcare in the city a major boost, and we are thrilled that the GP surgeries are now offering services from their superb new premises.

Patients can look forward to receiving first class care in a great environment. Healthcare professionals and staff at the two practices will also benefit from working in a state-of-the-art building.

The CCG would like to thank all of those involved in bringing this project to fruition."

The new medical centre is built on land owned by Gloucestershire County Council. It is part of ongoing regeneration of the Quayside area which is bringing high quality services, investment and job opportunities to the city.
