2,000 Tesco jobs at risk

Changes across the business at Tesco will put more than 2,000 jobs at risk nationwide.

The supermarket is to axe its last remaining food counters and introduce a new store management structure, as reported by Retail Gazette.

Tesco has already introduced a new management structure in around 350 of its smaller superstores.

It will now roll out this structure across its larger superstores and Extra stores. While it will introduce 1,800 new shift leader positions in these stores, it will cut the number of lead and team manager roles.

The big four retailer said it will realign its manager roles to ensure they are all of equal size and complexity.

Tesco said it is supporting colleagues impacted by the changes and they will have the option of taking a shift leader job with financial support or taking redundancy.

The last few counters and hot delis across the business will close from February 26, with the space to be repurposed to better serve customers' needs.

Tesco said it is entering into a consultation process with shop workers' union USDAW about the proposals.
