£1m project flies the flag for Gloucestershire across Europe

Gloucestershire's Local Enterprise Partnership, GFirst LEP, has set up a dedicated inward investment team for the county.

This team is led by GFirst LEP but is a collaboration between Gloucestershire County Council and all six local authorities - Cheltenham, Cotswolds, Forest of Dean, Gloucester City, Stroud and Tewkesbury.

All eight organisations have contributed towards this £1 million project and it has been supported by funding from the European Regional Development Fund.

This week the team are at the International Paris Air Show which brings together all the players in this global industry around the latest technological innovations.

GFirst LEP's deputy chief executive, Dev Chakraborty, said: "This is the first time that the county has had a co-ordinated approach to inward investment and in particular to non-EU foreign direct investment.

"Our dedicated team of three, backed up by colleagues from the local authorities, have a primary aim to attract new foreign direct investment into Gloucestershire, capitalising upon the county's unique opportunities.

"The team are also there to support the growth of existing local foreign owned businesses located in Gloucestershire."

The project will play to the strengths of the county and focus on four key business sectors; cyber, agri-tech, advanced engineering and manufacturing and renewables.

The team is led by Chris Lau, who has held a number of inward investment roles attracting foreign investment to the UK, including; at MIDAS, the inward investment agency for Manchester, the British Consulate in Hong Kong and at the Department for International Trade (DiT) where he headed up the Northern Powerhouse campaign of attracting investment into large-scale regeneration and infrastructure projects.
