120 jobs at mystery office development

Mystery surrounds a new office development planned for Cheltenham which could bring 120 jobs to the town.

All eyes are currently on the soon-to-open John Lewis store on the site of the former Beechwood Shopping centre off the spa town's high street.

Little attention is being paid to the now closed Poundworld store next door - where Punchline has learned plans are afoot for a new office development.

Bristol-based Pegasus Planning Group is planning to convert the retail and leisure space into two-storey offices for 120 staff for a company called Retail Plus Nominee Ltd.

In its application to the borough council it has asked for permission for "External alterations to the building including extension to the front of the building; change of use of first floor from ancillary retail space (Class A1) to offices (Class B1a); change of use of second floor from vacant leisure space (Class D2) to offices (Class B1a); and installation of plant equipment and re-configuration of the parking layout."

The building, 109 - 117 High Street, currently allows for retail space and use as a martial arts centre.

If the plans get the go-ahead the town will have an extra 1,107 square metres of office space fronting the High Street.

Punchline contacted the agent who was unable to comment.
