Late for the exam

At The Crypt School in Gloucester, four bright A-level students were so confident in their grades, that instead of revising the weekend before their maths exam they went to a friend's party in London. They had a great time but, after all the partying, they slept all day on Sunday and didn't take into account the return train's replacement bus service.
Arriving back in Gloucester on Monday morning, they were devastated to find that they had missed their exam.
They decided that they would tell their maths tutor that a flat tire had prevented them from making it in to school on time. To their relief the tutor agreed they could take their exam the next day. Thrilled that they had got away with it they studied hard for the exam that night.
The next day the maths tutor placed them in separate rooms and gave them their exam papers. They all quickly answered the first question worth 5 points.
Each one in separate rooms, they thought this was going to be easy ... then they turned the page. On the second page was written...
