Open-air Theatre Festival returns to Cheltenham

Astounding cinema, live music and enchanting outdoor theatre has been revealed at the Bacon Theatre this summer.

Events at the Dean Close School venue include a delicate close harmony tribute to Simon & Garfunkel Through the Years, great films including Queen of Katwe (PG), A United Kingdom (12A), Jackie (15) and Lion (PG), plus inspiring classical concerts from Gabriel Bianco, Mark Ashford and Duo Montes-Kircher.

A bumper season of National Theatre Live continues with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead broadcast from London's The Old Vic; the Barbican's Obsession starring Jude Law; the acclaimed Harold Pinter Theatre production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? starring Imelda Staunton; Peter Pan directed by Bristol Old Vic's Sally Cookson; The National Theatre's hypnotic production of Salomé and the much anticipated two-part play Angels in America Part 1 & 2

The RSC's Rome Season also continues over the summer with Antony & Cleopatra and Titus Andronicus broadcast from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

The longer nights also bring an exciting collection of outdoor theatre events, as the picturesque Tuckwell Ampitheatre opens its gates for the annual Open-air Theatre Festival in July.

Two weeks of energising live stage productions, enchanting films under the stars and live music include Jungle Book, Blithe spirit, Northanger Abbey, The History Boys; Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Taming of the Shrew and Twelfth Night; a Blues Picnic with Aynsley Lister; plus films Breakfast at Tiffany's (PG)and A Street Cat named Bob (12A).

Jess Waterman, speaking for the Bacon Theatre, said: "The Open-air Theatre Festival is a highlight in the Bacon Theatre calendar and we are over the moon to share our outdoor programme.

"As ever, Dean Close School's secluded, stone-built amphitheatre is the idyllic backdrop for compelling entertainment enjoyed over a picnic with family and friends."
