Date announced for next Strike a Light Festival

Where: Gloucester, various venues

When: October 11-18, 2017

Following a sell-out success this spring, Strike A Light has announced its next groundbreaking festival will take place in October.

The event in the autumn, from October 11 to 18, will be even bigger and better than before, say organisers, with details to be announced soon.

In the meantime, supporters can enjoy two other unique, national performances which are being brought to the city.

On May 8 and 9 at Gloucester Guildhall, The National Theatre presents My Country; a work in progress which has been created in collaboration with Strike A Light.

In the days after the EU referendum, the National Theatre began a nationwide listening project. A team of interviewers spoke to people around the country - from Leicester to Londonderry and Merthyr Tydfil to Glasgow - to hear their views of the country and town they live in, their lives, their future, and the referendum.

Using exact words taken from the interviews, My Country puts those conversations centre stage. Rufus Norris, Director of the National Theatre, collaborates with Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy to create this new production, which opened in London before playing at venues around the country.

It is showing on Monday, May 8 at 7.30pm and Tuesday, May 9 at 2pm and 7.30pm. Tickets cost £15. £5 tickets are available to school groups for the matinee performance on May 9.

On Friday, May 19, Paradise Lost (lies unopened beside me) by Lost Dog is being presented by Strike A Light, working with Gloucester Cathedral and Air in G.

It's a one-man staging of Milton's epic Paradise Lost, combining theatre, comedy and movement. The performance at the Chapter House at Gloucester Cathedral, is a journey through the story of the creation of everything, condensed into 75 minutes.

It starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £10. To book, visit www.strikealightfestival.org.uk
