Yet another fitness centre is set to flex its muscles

A new gym could soon be opening in Gloucester and if approved it will be the 17th fitness centre in the city.

The latest plans are for a 24 hour, seven day a week gym at 133, Bristol Road in a former tile centre and construction training HQ.

Watford-based Anytime Fitness, which has over 3,000 fitness clubs worldwide and 110 in the UK, has asked the city council for planning permission.

In its application the company says the single storey warehouse building has been empty for six months and the new gym will provide employment for up to eight staff.

"Including an Anytime Fitness gym on Bristol Road will add to the diversity of retail and leisure uses in the area, help maintain a vibrant economy, allow for linked use visits to the area and provide a valuable, complementary use," say the applicants.

Another gym is also opening above the new TK Maxx store in Northgate Street.

City council leader councillor Paul James says if more people are getting fit it is a good thing but planners will need to be satisfied the Anytime Fitness centre will not have a negative effect on its neighbours, it is reported on gloucestershirelive.co.uk
