What's On: Dragonboat Regatta returns to Gloucester Docks

Where: Gloucester Docks

When: Sunday, May 7, 2017

Excitement is building for the return of the colourful, adrenaline-fuelled Dragonboat Regatta at Gloucester Docks this weekend.

All funds raised will go towards supporting numerous worthy causes, both home and abroad, selected by the Rotary Club of Gloucester Severn, the organisers of the event this year.

There are 30 local teams which have signed up to battle it out in 40ft-long dragonboats to win the coveted Dragonboat Shield.

Steve Markham, one of the organisers, says: "Everything is ready for another bumper day.

"Fingers crossed the weather will be dry and sunny, but come what may, there will be lots going on in the Docks to keep young and old entertained.

"Thirty local teams will be competing, with races every 10 minutes or so, beginning at 10am and running through until roughly 5.30pm. In between we've arranged a funfair, lots of stalls, face painters and numerous musical entertainers on our stage, so there's sure to be something for all the family."

Entry to the Dragonboat Regatta is free for spectators. Racing is due to start at 10am on Sunday through until 6pm.
