Warning: work planned for important commuter route
21st April 2017
Road closures are in the pipeline for a busy commuter route in Gloucestershire while resurfacing work is carried out.
Gloucestershire County Council has announced today that a section of the A40 dual carriageway south of Shipton Oliffe, near Cheltenham, will be closed overnight from May 2 to May 17.
The resurfacing work will be carried between 7pm-7am, to maintain a section of dual carriageway used by commuters.
The road will be fully reopened during the daytimes from 7am to 7pm.
The work will help prolong the road's life and will address defects caused by frequent use.
Residents are asked to plan journeys in advance to avoid the closure times, because only emergency vehicles will be permitted to use this section of road whilst closed.
A diversion route suitable for heavy vehicles will be fully signposted from Northleach via the A429 Fosseway to Cirencester, then the A417/419 to Gloucester then the A40 into Cheltenham.
Bob Skillern, local highways manager at Gloucestershire County Council, said: "This section of the A40 is important for commuters travelling to and from major locations, including London and Oxford, so it is vital for this resurfacing to go ahead.
"I would like to thank residents in advance for their cooperation while the work is carried out."
