Warning: improvement work will lead to road closures

Road closures to allow resurfacing work to take place on routes near Cheltenham have been announced.

Wyman's Lane in Swindon Village and the A435 roundabout in Bishop's Cleeve will be affected by the work.

Action is being taken to resurface the A435 roundabout at Evesham Road and Voxwell Lane, Bishops Cleeve, after a rapid decline in the road's condition.

Due to an increase in potholes and surface defects, Gloucestershire County Council has brought forward the work.

Work had originally been scheduled for later in the year, but in line with the council's commitment to ensuring all roads are in good condition, this will now take place over the weekend of 24 March.

For this essential work to go ahead, a closure will be in place at this roundabout, from 7pm on Friday, 24 March to 7pm, Saturday, 25 March, and 7am to 5.30pm on Sunday, 26 March.

Cllr Robert Bird, county councillor for Bishop's Cleeve, said: "I am pleased that county highways have responded quickly, listening to the concerns of road users and getting this critical junction resurfaced much earlier than planned.

"Safety is paramount. Road closures will inevitably be disruptive, but with work restricted to the weekend at night time where feasible, this is being kept to a necessary minimum."

Resurfacing will take place on Wyman's Lane from 3-10 April.

On weekdays a road closure will be in place from the mini-roundabout with Runnings Road up the full length of Wyman's Lane to the junction with Church Road. The road will be open to traffic as usual over the weekend.

Cllr Bernard Fisher, county councillor for St Paul's and Swindon, said: "This is positive news for both local people and visitors to the area. I'm pleased this upgrade to the road surface will soon be under way."
