Students enjoy taste of the world of work

Ever wondered what it is like to work in fundraising? Students have been finding out thanks to the support of a Gloucestershire charity.

Children from Milestone School in Gloucester visited Cobalt to join the medical charity's volunteer card groups and helped to sort donated greetings cards ready for upcycling.

They then spent some time with the marketing team to see how the website is managed and learned about the diagnostic imaging equipment used by the charity.

Cobalt's fundraising engagement officer Kirsty Bradbury said: "We really enjoyed having the students here at Cobalt and giving them the opportunity to experience life outside of school and a taster of the routines and tasks in the world of work."

Janine Smith, assistant head teacher and enterprise head of department, said: "Removing barriers and enabling our students to visit the workplace is essential in order to prepare them for adult life.

"Work experience such as this helps us enormously in developing student's communication skills and enabling them to be understood, problem solve and cope with new experiences."

As well as working with businesses in the community, the school has a number of facilities that can be hired, including a main hall, meeting room space and hydrotherapy pool.
