Royal award for aircraft museum volunteers
2nd June 2017
The Jet Age Museum charity at Staverton has received the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service 2017
The accolade was created by The Queen in 2002 to mark the occasion of her Golden Jubilee, recognising excellence in voluntary activities carried out by groups in the community.
The Jet Age Museum was nominated for the accolade in 2016 and the independent Assessment Committee, chaired by Sir Martyn Lewis CBE admired the work that the charity group has done in the community in promoting and preserving the history of Gloucestershire's role in world aviation and providing an educational resource.
Chair of museum trustees, David Hunt said: "The opening of our permanent home at Gloucestershire Airport in 2014 marked the culmination of over three decades of entirely voluntary work. Our team continues to deliver our objectives with passion and enthusiasm to our growing visitor numbers and I congratulate our volunteers, past and present, on this wonderful achievement."
The award and a signed certificate from the Queen will be formally presented at the museum by the Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, Dame Janet Trotter later this year when the museum will launch its fundraising campaign for its 'Phase 2' development programme to grow the attraction's display, restoration and educational facilities.
