On your bike! Rental company set to launch new service

A new bicycle scheme that could help cut down on traffic congestion is being launched in Gloucestershire by a hire, tours and holidays company.

Bainton Bikes will run a scheme that utilises phone technology to enable customers to rent a bike for 24 hours a day.

The launch, featuring short speeches from people involved in the scheme, will take place on Tuesday, 28 March on The Promenade in Cheltenham.

Bainton Bikes director Kevin Moreland said: "Today's hirers want to be able to pick up and put down a bike at will without having to park it in a docking station. This is what our scheme will offer."

After registering at the Bainton Bikes website, customers will be invited to book a 'Donkey bike' and to download the app from Donkey Republic, which will provide them with the platform to find, unlock and relock the bike.

Mr Moreland added: "Our Donkey bikes will allow you to pick up a bike at, say, the railway station at any time of day or night, use it as necessary and return it there when finished.

"With a complement of routes, the bikes allow exploration of areas otherwise less accessible, whilst easing traffic congestion and providing a green sustainable model."
